It combines strengths in energy and resources, petrochemicals, non‑ferrous metals, equipment and heavy industry, agriculture and animal husbandry, as well as key transport corridors such as land ports, rail hubs, and cross‑border routes along the Silk Road.

In recent years, Northwest China has been pushing high‑quality development by upgrading its traditional resource‑based industries, expanding new energy (including wind, solar, and related manufacturing), building logistics and trade platforms tied to the Belt and Road, and developing cultural tourism and modern services. For overseas businesses, this region is especially relevant for energy and resources, new energy and related equipment, agrifood supply chains, cross‑border logistics to Central Asia and Europe, and projects that use inland hubs and land ports as platforms for international trade.
